Pre-Zoomed

Pre-Zoomed
did we not assume
the voices that we heard
belonged to those we thought were speaking?
anything else would be absurd
and yet others could be present
their voices unheard
more perspectives could be lost
and full potential could be deterred
our communication now has blossomed
from the times when we pre-Zoomed
seeing, hearing, feeling
our full presence has bloomed

amazing to look back on
to understand it now
captured by the artist
a sensitive child

the eyes tell the story
the posture does too
a child sat to be captured
and the artist then was too
the artist had suffered
the loss of one that she loved
the child felt it deeply
who was this portrait of?
it could be called a self-portrait
the artist didn’t know
her gift of illustrating
was of herself it would show
the portraits of four children
two before and two to come
showed the before and the after
and what her emotions had done
a portrait of understanding
in how our emotions affect others too
a gift from an artist
who really never knew

Separation

Separation
there is a yearning
a yearning to dissolve all separation
by uniting our attributes
by coming into right relation
with each other
right relation comes about
by respecting the sacredness of all life
recognizing how precious our own lives are
making our own decisions
based on our feelings, experiences
not by what we are told to do or believe
accepting and respecting
the perspectives and decisions of others
allowing for the inclusiveness of our differences
dissolving separation
