Their Petition
it was offered on awakening
then lingered in the past
the Alzheimers’ petition
is for understanding that is asked
they may not be able to speak it
but understand they simply have a need
to return home from whence they came
where in so many ways they’re freed
they are content to leave this time
perhaps not in body but in mind
to no longer be confined
by life’s limitations
