And as Parents We Are

once we became
and as parents we are
carrying the torch
of generations before

positioned to love
and to grow the love too
into our children
and into the new

the challenge is to let go
of the past and what’s done
for we must focus on the present
and what we want to become

the gifts of our parents
and those of before
we cherish and nurture
as we seed even more

fertile times
here for the planting
for our children, grandchildren
our awareness is demanding 

our responsiveness to
the opportunities gifted
here to serve them
and why we enlisted
to be parents
of parents
