As a Tree
in winter we grow
we grow our roots
we prepare for spring
when we will leaf and flower
then we gift our fruit to all life
that’s when we then seed the future

A Bear on my Couch
A Bear on my Couch
there’s a bear sleeping on my couch
i’d greeted him standing
he’d been there for weeks
and must have been tired
it was a time for hibernation
when i went to bed
i gave an apology instead
and offered the couch
and a blanket
the bear now still sleeps
don’t know when he’ll wake up
as i don’t hibernate
i go from sleep to awake
and often wonder if a long slumber
would help us to be unencumbered
from all we accumulate
in a year of our doings
