backwards in timE

Consider, consider
living backwards in time
All life’s experiences
hung on a clothesline

Some are still wet
dripping to dry
Others are light
and in the breeze fly

To the wet ones
we re-visit waiting to see
how long it will take
to dry and be free

Backwards thru time
assessing the mix
A few heavy experiences
weighting for a fix

Commune with the energies
the wind and the air
Commune with the fire
and the warmth it can bear

Elemental solutions
to dry out our wet
Once the line’s dry
freedom we get

Consider, consider
now living backwards in time
from the last of life’s experiences
go back down the line

Remove them and stack them
gently put them away
and at the end of the line
start a new day

Cartographer

Cartographer

let us play the role of cartographer
the maker of maps
and the new biographer…

it used to be called
wearing two hats
now there’s a third role
called observer perhaps

what map will we draw?
whose story will be told?
the place of new beginnings
a map to unfold

Silver Thread

Silver Thread

a silver thread pulled straight and so long
ripples and moves, becoming a song
weaving back and forth like one way streets
intersecting, sometimes pausing
where other streets meet

silver, shiny, reflecting like the Moon
able to vibrate, to carry a tune
a thread that is flexible, able to bend
to weave in and out with other threads as they mend

whether to mend or create, in a way it’s the same
there’s no beginning or end to this tapestry game
there’s a story to be told, a song to be sung
to see it, to hear it, where has this thread begun?

each thread is woven into what already exists
yet a vision, an idea gives a very new twist
and the expression of the new soon changes the old
silver thread is reflecting a new story untold

we pick up the thread, we weave the new song
we’re weaving a tapestry where all can belong
we’re weaving with all colours and copper and gold
the song and the story begins to unfold
