The Art of Giving

The Art of Giving

let us study the art of giving as a new way of living
and play it forward
let us bring to our neighbour something to savour
gifted not borrowed

the art of giving is sparked in the heart
an awareness of suffering, a desire to uplift
taking action to help others
or giving an anonymous gift
celebrating a life

can we mindfully live with the desire to give
and seek the opportunities daily?
can we share our abundance, our wealth of knowledge?
what we’ve acquired of value from this lifetime’s college?

a lending hand, an ear to listen
can we organize a drive for someone deprived
of the necessities of life
and what are they?

water, food, shelter and clothing are often quoted
love and friendship, peace and respect have been promoted
we can see the needs, the opportunities to give
to give of ourselves so others may live
cherished and cared for

let us seek within and expose our whole being to the art of giving
let us seek to become artists in the form
of generosity born
and give

Let the Quiet Ones Be Heard

Let the Quiet Ones Be Heard

let the quiet ones be heard
for they too have truly served
as observers they too seek
the opportunity to speak

ask and give them space
slow down the rapid pace
tune in to a quiet one’s heart
and encourage them to start

the observer’s senses are fine tuned
and like when a camera’s lens is zoomed
can be as an eagle’s eye
taking in the big picture, flying high

then focusing on a point of interest
dives in for a closer look
and exploring all perspectives
is ready to share directives

when the quiet ones speak
it is not attention that they seek
(for they are content being quiet and meek)
it is to share the voice of wisdom
and to participate in a co-creative decision

may all be heard
for on the curve
not all are seen

or heard

Interesting the obsolete definition of meek is “gentle and kind”
The intention here is to recognize and return this definition to the future.

Appreciation

Appreciation

the voice from within will always begin
with appreciation
thankful for life, the beauty, the love
for all of creation

gratitude sings from one heart to another
gratitude brings a closeness, a bond
gratitude cherishes the gifts that are given
gratitude expresses what is felt by the heart

to appreciate each other opens a resonant field
where love and wisdom may be shared
where perspectives are respected and differences honoured
where diversity is examined, compared

appreciation comes from feeling, then speaking from the heart
creating a resonant field where we can all start
to express ourselves, speaking our truth
then listening from the heart to the fountain of youth
