Honour the Children

Honour the Children

What she witnessed today again gave her great pain
And she remembered it happening – again and again
We must speak our truth – forget anger and shame
Violence to others – all must stop and refrain

Refrain from repeating the actions we’ve seen
From parents and teachers and others who’ve been
Role models who have lost it, let loose or been mean
Hurt us with roughness or language obscene

Oh how can we stop this – a disease that has spread?
Thru generations perhaps but now there’s more to dread
The movies, TV, texts, even songs
Distorting a beautiful world and a grandmother mourns

Throughout this world,  affecting all living things…
The children, blessed children with sweetness are born
We love them, protect them yet soon brews a storm:

….A child defies, choosing its own way of seeing, expresses its own understanding, using its own tone….
….An adult or older child corrects them and blocks who they are
and misses the opportunity to hear their perspective….

Oh let them be who they were born to be
Let them be who they are here to be
They chose their families and will teach them too
If given the chance, they’ll share wisdom with you

Where two or more gather, friends, family or by birth
Country, race, religion or who came first
Differences can be a problem if we let them be
and some choose to comment on what they see

Who’s responsible for action or language that’s rough?
Is that who we want to the future entrust?
Can we not see the richness in our cultures’ diversity
and tolerate and honour our different complexity?

Oh guide us dear Ancestors, Elders, Great Spirit
We need help right now – surely you can hear it
How do we allow the journeys of others
when what they do harms the little ones – sisters and brothers?

Prayers and visions for how we can change
Surely the answers are somewhere in range
Carry the Light and the Love to the ones
Who are lacking the patience for this world’s daughters and sons

Let us receive the wisdom that’s there
And show to our young ones just how much we care
Gentleness, kindness to these loving, sweet beings
If we all lived like sweet children we’d enjoy loving feelings

The Perfect Storm

The Perfect Storm

The perfect storm has come and gone
We now take stock – time to move on
This storm did not need wind or rain
And what was cleared did not cause pain

The day it felt like none before
A heaviness was felt by some and more
Emotions flowed and tears released
The past – it blurred then was deceased

The storm it came to clear the past
Washed away what had held us like a cast
And blown away were the memory loops
That held us in our low energy soups

As we take stock – what has been left?
The power of the storm was purposeful, deft
We have been left exposed and clear
With the purity of a child held dear

And then with awe we see the gems
And we examine them closely with our lens
The treasure that was left, exposed by the storm
Is all we need to be reborn

LOVE with all its warmth and glow
And WISDOM – garnered – its seeds to sow
Dear ancestors, and now we, are gifting these gems
Let us magnify them now through our collective lens
Focusing to see and open the end
Of this universe and to the next ascend

Oppression and the Surfer

Oppression and the Surfer

It’s a time of oppression, repression, depression
A time of recession, turmoil and greed
Recognize the symptoms are churning and burning
And the storm’s path is building – to where will it lead?

The waves that are rising and building and rolling
Are fed by the desperate ones who’re in need
Those who need water and clothing and shelter
Those who have families they’re wanting to feed

And if their call is unanswered, ignored or denied
The storms will keep building, keep spreading wide
All will be in its path, be ready, expect it
Be ready to receive it for there’s nowhere to hide

The storm of destruction, laying waste, creating change
Has a purpose of taking, levelling the field where we play
To experience in this lifetime what others are living
From this storm there’s no shelter – is there no other way?

It is the way of the surfer who rides the waves of oppression
Surfing waves of repression, of depression and greed
It takes a skilled surfer to ride it out, to stay balanced, heart-centred
As the storm waves increase, fuelled by the need

These waves are the big ones; they’re here to be mastered
The surfer has waited for them, waited many lifetimes
The surfer doesn’t consider the wave before or one after
This one’s to be surfed as the wall of water climbs

The water holds the info, the emotions, our journeys
The water has accumulated it, all is combined
The surfer can see it, can feel it, understand it
These are the emotions that can’t be confined

Know that the surfer will ride out the big one
The surfer is riding for all of mankind
The surfer is strengthened by courage and compassion
The surfer intends to leave no one behind

Cheer on the surfer, take a lesson, become one
Or at the very least intend to do no one harm
Give away… share… return to the basics
We’re all responsible for what’s fuelling this storm

As the storm clouds are building and the waves are increasing
Somewhere the sun’s shining and the waters are calm
There Surfer has reached the shoreline – the journey has ended
Surfer has returned and rests now on the Palm
